OA+D NEWS & EVENTS

From The Archives
The OA+D Archives has several architectural models under its stewardship. One of the most striking of them all is the 1990s era model of the David E. Dodge-designed house for William V. and Carolyn Glastris. The design features striking metallic copper painted cascading roof structures and intricate twisted copper wire landscaping elements. It's a wonderful example of the imaginative design ideas of David Dodge, one of Taliesin's most beloved Fellowship members. As an educator at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, he took the time to include students in the process of creating the model to help apprentice the next generation of organic architects and designers.
Over the years, the model was moved around and received damage and wear. When it was transferred to the OA+D Archives as part of the Taliesin Architects Collection, it needed a lot of restoration work.
Over the past year the OA+D Archives has been researching and documenting the work of David E. Dodge as part of the development of the forthcoming monograph on David's life and work to be published in 2025. We felt it important to restore the Glastris model as part of this endeavor, and we're pleased to say that significant portions of the model have been rebuilt and, most excitingly, the electrical system has been repaired so that it now lights up as originally conceived by David!
Our goal is to have the model finished in time to have on display at the November OA+D Celebration event in Chandler so that everyone who attends can appreciate the brilliance of this wonderful work of organic architecture.
If you'd like to donate tax-deductible funds to help restoration efforts like this, please follow THIS LINK. Additionally, if you have archival materials related to David Dodge, the Taliesin Fellowship, or any other organic architectural or design items that you're interested in donating to join our growing collections, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.

Time To Renew Your Journal OA+D Subscription
Our flagship publication, The Journal of Organic Architecture + Design, has been continuously published three times a year since 2013. In that time significant and groundbreaking scholarship has been done on a variety of organic practitioners and their works. Each issue is crafted and produced with a commitment to quality and as part of our core mission as an educational non-profit. But as you might expect, it comes at an expensive cost.
Every issue costs thousands of dollars to produce, print, mail, and more. Thanks to the support of annual subscribers, we're able to continue to bring these stories to you all.
If you've been a subscriber in the past, please consider renewing your subscription before the end of the year to ensure you never miss an issue.
