News And Updates
We're just a few weeks away from the special open house fundraiser that the OA+D Archives will be hosting at our Chandler, AZ Study Center on November 11, 2022. The event coincides with the 90th Reunion of the Taliesin Fellows and will help celebrate their wonderful living legacy.
In the year since the public-facing OA+D Study Center was opened, we've not only been making significant headway in organizing the Taliesin Architects Collection, but we've continued to acquire and rescue other collections, installed a high-resolution large format scanner, helped several researchers, home owners, and other enthusiasts with their various questions and informational needs, all while continuing to produce our many in-depth and high-quality publications. So we definitely want to celebrate with all of you this wonderful year of success and build momentum for all the exciting things to come!
In addition to snacks and drinks on our spacious patio area, there will be tours of the Study Center and select Taliesin Architects Collection materials, new OA+D publications launched, a special limited edition holiday ornament available, a silent auction fundraiser, and more.
It's sure to be an enjoyable evening to help support our ongoing efforts of preservation and education on the legacy of organic architecture and design!
If you're going to be in the Chandler area on November 11th and would like to attend, then send us an RSVP in advance to info@oadarchives.org and we'll be sure to add you to the festivities participant list!

From The Archives
In honor of the life and work of David E. Dodge—Wright apprentice, Taliesin Fellowship member, architect, teacher, and musical composer—the OA+D Archives has put together a special online exhibit of some of his select architectural works.
David Elgin Dodge joined the Taliesin Fellowship and became an Apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright in September, 1951. He participated as an architect and designer in the Taliesin Associated Architects practice that carried on after the death of Wright in 1959. OA+D Archives presents a group of 40 architectural drawings and over 70 photographs for 7 of the 26 Taliesin Architects projects he is credited with being principal architect whose records are now held by OA+D Archives. You can view the online gallery here. Special thanks to OA+D's own Mark Hammons for putting this together and overseeing the many aspects of our growing online archival catalog.
If you happen to have materials related to David's life or career (or any other organic architectural or design items) that you're interested in donating to be preserved, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.

Current And Forthcoming Journal OA+D Issues
We've been hard at work on both current and upcoming issues the Journal of Organic Architecture + Design and thought people would appreciate a look at what's available and at what's coming!
The Autumn 2022 issue of the Journal OA+D is now available and features one of architect Arthur Dyson's most exceptional works, The Hilton Residence, along with a primer of his career in organic architecture. Working under the auspices of three major figures of American Architecture — Frank Lloyd Wright, William Gray Purcell, and Bruce Goff — and across more than five decades of professional practice, Art Dyson has remained unswervingly committed to the belief that architectural design is one of the most potently enduring means to improve the quality of human experience. One of the most compelling of his many designs is the seaside residence he created for Charles and Lela Hilton in Alys Beach, Florida (completed 2001). The design solution for this large private residence is rooted in the desire of the client for strong statement in creative architectural form and the demanding conditions of the site. In both business and personal focus, the life patterns of the client are deeply enveloped by the ambience of the Florida seashore, and everything in their program emphasized fluidity of movement. With an essay by author and historian Mark Hammons, the issue will feature an abundance of stunning color photos by David Swann that detail this exceptional work of organic architecture inside and out. Get your copy here.
The winter 2022 issue will feature and extensive look at Frank Lloyd Wright's "Cabin on the Rocks," the Della Walker House in Carmel-by-the-Sea. With an essay by Wright historian and author, Kathryn Smith, the full-color double sized issue will feature both new scholarship and never-before-published photographs and drawings of this iconic architectural work. Pre-orders will begin soon.
Then quickly following the winter issue will be our first issue of 2023, featuring the life and work of architect, designer, poet, and long-time Taliesin Fellowship member, Charles Robert Schiffner. Charles not only worked for decades contributing enormously to the efforts of the Taliesin Associated Architects, but he went on to have an immensely influential impact on the Phoenix area with the design and execution of hundreds of residential, commercial, public, and transportation designs. The forthcoming full-color journal will be an extensive curation of many of his architectural and graphic design projects that showcase his unique creativity and contribution to the "organic cause." Pre-orders will begin soon.
