News And Updates :: GIVINGTUESDAY

Today is GivingTuesday, the day where the financial generosity of people helps non-profits like the OA+D Archives achieve their end of year goals.

2022 was another amazing year of achievements for OA+D: We continued our publishing efforts through the Journal of Organic Architecture + Design and the new Jacobs Houses book, edited by Neil Levine. Working with the Lautner Foundation and TSOA we produced a new exhibit featuring two of John Lautner's cabin designs in models and drawings. We also became the stewards of several significant archival collections and organic works, including the William E. Davies Collection, the Susan Jacobs Lockhart Collection, the Kamal Amin Collection, and several others. We also continue to organize and catalog the TA Collection at our Chandler Study Center, which recently celebrated its 1 year anniversary of being open and servicing scholars and enthusiasts. The work is aided by our successful fundraiser to acquire our own large format scanner to digitize drawings and plans. Finally, the online archival catalog continues to grow and be refined to offer the most expansive access to the collections.

All of this immense effort takes a huge amount of time, dedication, and financial resources.

By donating to OA+D, your support helps advance OA+D's mission to honor the past, celebrate the present, and encourage the future of creative organic architecture and design through education, conservation of original design materials, publication, and exhibition.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation today to help us continue the work underway and enable future efforts to preserve the remarkable legacy of Organic Architecture and Design.

From The Archives

The OA+D Archives recently acquired the majority of the William E. Davies Collection. Davies was an architect, author, filmmaker, and former Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice. The collection that joins the OA+D Archives consists of hundreds of photos, a 16mm film, hundreds of slides and negatives, printed ephemera, and correspondence. Of significant note, the majority of the collection relates to the documentation of the Imperial Hotel from 1963 and 1967, including its filmed destruction in full color and alarming detail. We will be working to organize and digitize this collection to add to our online archival catalog. 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of Wright's Imperial Hotel, so the timely addition of this material will aid in long-term study, appreciation, and understanding of this lost architectural masterpiece.

If you happen to have other materials related to the Imperial Hotel (or any other organic architectural or design items) that you're interested in donating to be preserved, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.
