From The Archives
Throughout this anniversary year we've been featuring some of the hundreds of items OA+D is fortunate enough to have in its collections that are connected to Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel.
This month we feature one of the scores of real photo postcards of the Imperial Hotel held in the collections of OA+D. This one from 1923 shows the Mezzanine, looking on the diagonal across the atrium space. It shows many of the interior details of the Hotel when it was brand new and prior to the Great Kanto Earthquake in September 1923.
This particular postcard was one of the 100 items recently featured in the new Journal of Organic Architecture + Design, guest edited and with new essays by Kathryn Smith. If you didn't already get your copy of this landmark issue, then be sure to order one here.
If you have materials that are related to the Imperial Hotel (or any other organic architectural or design items) that you're interested in donating to join other items like these, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.

A Taliesin Architects Collection Milestone Reached!
The OA+D Archives is indebted to its group of dedicated volunteers who do so much to help the organization achieve its many goals. From meeting with scholars and researchers at the Study Center in Chandler; to helping to organize, digitize, and catalog the many collections under our stewardship; to taking an active role in the growth and development of the organization in every possible way—they are the passionate and dedicated engine behind our success.
This was made apparent when on Tuesday, September 5th at approximately 10:35am PST, all of the Taliesin Architects Collection project flat file materials (some 60,000 prints, drawings, plans, etc.) that were transferred to OA+D from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation were organized in ascending order by their project numbers.
This concludes 2 of the 3 major organizational tasks that were started in November 2021, approximately 22 months ago and now allows us to quickly locate any materials we hold in the TA Collection.
The Study Center Team has already put this to good use to help locate materials for a recent inquiry by researchers looking to locate any materials we might have on Stephen Nemtin's "Blood Services Building" design at 6200 East Oak St., Scottsdale, AZ, now known as Vitalant Blood Services. Materials were located quickly and we digitized the drawings of interest for the researchers to aid them in their efforts to historically preserve this work of organic architecture.
But the work continues! We have a third organizational task ahead of us to start at the beginning again and document every piece of paper and update our online archival collection catalog with the information and pertinent digitized images for the entire organized TA Collection.
Along with our remarkable volunteers, it is also your generous donations that help keep this vital work going. If you want to help make a difference, please consider making a tax-deductible donation HERE!
