News And Updates :: New Scanner Installed And Active
OA+D's new HP DesignJet T2600 large format scanner and printer arrived in mid April to the Chandler Archival Study Center, has been installed, and is already being put to good use!
Thanks to a successful fundraising campaign, several generous supporters donated tax deductible gifts that enabled us to secure this fantastic piece of technology that we've already started to use to scan drawings from the collections. This will help us in our efforts to digitize as much of the archival collections as possible and for use in future publications. Case-in-point: Several drawings by Charles "Lath" Schiffner that were identified among the TA Collection are being scanned in preparation for the Fall issue of the Journal OA+D. We'll be sure to keep readers in the loop on our progress and the exciting things discovered as we make our way through the drawers and migrate things to the archival catalog website!
As always we're grateful for ongoing financial support via donations and purchases of our many publications. We could also use some additional volunteer help if anyone near Chandler is interested in lending a hand and wanting to work on some exciting projects! Reach out to info@oadarchives.org if you're interested!

From The Archives
Three new terra-cotta blocks have been donated to the growing OA+D collections. The reddish glazed blocks we're salvaged from the Thomas A. Edison School, formally of Hammond, IN and feature abstracted geometric designs by George Grant Elmslie. The school was built in 1937 with the highly decorative blocks manufactured by the Midland Terra Cotta Company. They are a welcome addition to our growing architectural artifacts collection.
If you have other organic architectural artifacts or other materials that you're interested in donating to be preserved, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.

Spring 2022 OA+D Journal Update
Good news! The Spring 2022 issue of the Journal OA+D is finished printing and will be mailing from the printer to arrive in subscriber's mailboxes in the coming days/first weeks of May!
The 44 page full-color issue features the exciting organic work of the Texas architectural firm of MacKie and Kamrath. Karl Kamrath (1911-1988) grew up in Austin, Texas and earned his Bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Texas at Austin in 1934. His early career was spent in Chicago but he moved back to Texas in 1937 and became a partner in the firm of MacKie and Kamrath, one of the first Houston firms credited with creating modern architecture. Kamrath had an opportunity to meet Frank Lloyd Wright when he visited Taliesin in June of 1946. This trip had a profound effect on Kamrath's architectural designs as he committed himself to creating organic architecture following Wright's Usonian principles.
With an essay by Katie Pierce Meyer and guest edited by Randolph C. Henning, the issue features over 60 never-before-published drawings, plans, and photographs from the University of Texas Libraries Alexander Architectural Archives.
